Jul 27, 2022 路 At low temperatures, 0W-20 oil performs similarly to SAE 0 oil, while at extreme temps, it acts similarly to SAE 20 oil. 0W-20 is unquestionably safe for the engine. It鈥檚 pricy for a quart, but it鈥檚 the greatest fit for your vehicle, as advised by most manufacturers. 5W-30 oils are more powerful in cold weather.
Jan 8, 2007 路 At full operating temperature the viscosity difference between the average 20 and 30 wt. oils is nil. At 120 F and below the 20 wt. oils out perform the 30 wt. oils. It takes a good 10 to 15 minutes of driving to get the oil temperature up to 120 F even though your water temperature gets up there in a minute or two.
Nov 24, 2019 路 At this moment, the car is running on 0w30 ravenol sso, but i'd like to move to 5w30 Reason : i have used 5w30 in the past and the oil consumption was around 0.3-0.5 liter while with 0w20(Motul Eco-lite with low 2.6 HTHS) or with 0w30(surprisingly high HTHS 3.57) I have around 0.8- 1L / 8000 km
0w30 is only needed for very low temperatures. Like -30 degrees. The difference between 0w30 and 5w30 is almost nothing. Run either one. Don't listen to a single person that thinks your engine will blow up. That's nonsense. If manufacturers had that tight of tolerance they would blow up all the time. Hell we run 5w30 in engines that call for 0w20.
Oct 10, 2018 路 The better oils will feature some Ester molecules and adhere to metal better for the cold start-up. For summer also the 0w40 is excellent but for winter in Germany 5w30 or 0w30 if the specs show you a viscocity at 0 degrees perhaps close to 50 then you be better than 85. Do not pay attention to the bottle label. Read the specs.
Aug 8, 2021 路 Try to find an 0W20 C2 oil other than the manufacturers oil!) oil, the same engine the year before (apparently also with a variable displacement oil pump) called for 0W30 (Acea C3) oil. The years before 5W30 (Acea C3) and the base engine block used since mid 00's used to use 5W40 (A3 w/o DPF).

is 0w30 better than 0w20
